HUMMINGBIRD INDIGENOUS FAMILY SERVICES MISSION AND VISION

‍

Healthy Indigenous babies being born into healthy Indigenous families being supported by healthy Indigenous communities. At Hummingbird Indigenous Family Services, we believe that attachment and culture are the foundations of healthy communities and that through rematriation (Returning the Sacred to the Mother), we can heal historical trauma.

‍

Through culturally relevant support during the perinatal period, we reduce the personal, cultural, and systemic barriers that disproportionately affect Indigenous parents while strengthening the bond between parents and connections to the community.

‍

SUMMARY OF POSITION

Hummingbird is looking to contract with 3-6 individuals who can edit the curriculum and lesson plans within our Pilimakua Indigenous Home Visiting Model. Our lessons need editors who can support the procedural writing, alignment, formatting, and author-voice editing of them. This work is vital to give our Indigenous communities the best quality lesson plans that are accessible and able to be implemented across many of our diverse Indigenous communities.

Within our Indigenous Curriculum & Special Projects Department, Hummingbird IFS has been working to develop the Pilimakua Indigenous Home Visiting Model (PIHV Model). The PIHV Model is an Indigenous home visiting curriculum model to support positive parent and child outcomes within Indigenous (American Indian, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, and Pacific Islander) home visiting families, with children ages 0-3. Our model is rooted in reciprocal knowledge sharing of Indigenous Language & Culture Reclamation and Sustainability, Caregiver Mindfulness & Self-Compassion, and Child Development. We guide home visitors in supporting their home visiting families with Indigenous Sovereignty, flexibility, and accuracy.
