Daysha Gunther, MPH (she/her) is a mixed Yup’ik auntie. Her maternal ancestors and family come from Kongiganak, a village in southwest Alaska. She was born in Bethel, Alaska and grew up in Anchorage before moving to Western Washington on Coast Salish lands in 1999. She has lived in Seattle on unceded Duwamish land since 2010. Daysha received her bachelor of science degree in public health in 2017 and her master of public health degree focusing on health systems and policy in 2021 from the University of Washington. Prior to joining Hummingbird, Daysha worked in Indigenous evaluation focusing on chronic disease prevention in urban Native contexts. Daysha is passionate about data sovereignty and evaluation centering community and culture. She sees her evaluation work as telling the story of how reclamation of culture supports community care and wellbeing. She sees the process of collecting and analyzing data as an opportunity to creatively meet communities where they are at. Daysha’s favorite part of this work is to be with community and hear these powerful stories.
